A Herald of the Dead will raise this to 330. If you take the legendary legion you are committed to selecting Aragorn and the King of the Dead, which will set you back 260 points. You will need to decide if you are going to take The Return of the King legendary legion from the War in Gondor book, or just a straight Army of the Dead list. Not to the extent a force like the Fellowship, Thorin’s Company or the Dunedan are, but the cheapest model you can get is 14 points with just a hand weapon. In the game the Dead of Dunharrow are an elite force. ![]() Of course painting them like this would be a massive pain. This means there are plenty of reasons to give the army a chance. This limits painting, limits how long it takes you to play, and means you don’t need to work out how to use many different types of models. A 500 point force would not necessarily involve more than a couple of purchases added to a single 20 strong box of warriors. The high points costs for models mean that you don’t need a lot.The models are incredibly easy to paint, which I will go into later.Plastic Warriors of the Dead are in the Pelennor Fields starter box, meaning that they are easy to get and plentiful in swaps and the secondary market.This means a lot of hard to kill things die quick against the Dead, like Mumaks. It’s a hard counter to a lot of big monsters and low courage evil armies, as the models roll against Courage, not Defence to wound.Almost all the models for it are available in plastic (only Riders of the Dead and Warrior with Banner are in metal).The Dead of Dunharrow is a reasonably popular army in Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game for a few important reasons: ![]()
